The Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) was founded in 1999 as an umbrella organization of Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs) to provide a unified voice for all persons with disabilities. The goal of FEDOMA is to enhance the welfare of all persons with disabilities and enable them to assume their rightful role in society.
FEDOMA supports and encourages the formation of DPOs in Malawi, as well as strengthens existing DPOs. In addition, FEDOMA promotes and coordinates development efforts and self-help projects among persons with disabilities and their organizations.
Through the iSAVE Inclusive Economic Empowerment Programme, FEDOMA, together with the Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD), supports DPOs in assisting persons with disabilities to gain access to informal microfinance services. This is done by supporting and guiding the formation of inclusive saving and credit groups, which encourages persons with disabilities to become economically independent.
FEDOMA has been supported by NAD since 2003 and has collaborated with NAD on iSAVE since 2016. FEDOMA is also engaged in the areas of Organizational Development, Advocacy, and Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DiDRR) with the support of NAD.
