iSAVE was founded by three organizations after working together over several years to support one of the most marginalized groups in the society: persons with disabilities. The organizations are the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU), the Association of Microfinance Institutions of Uganda (AMFIU) and the Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD). They main role is to teach persons with disabilities and their local communities about the rights of persons with disabilities and how to fight poverty.

NUDIPU is representing the disability fraternity, AMFIU is representing the microfinance institutions, while NAD provides NUDIPU and AMFIU with technical and financial support, the latter with funds from NAD’s back donor – the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). Already in 1987, NAD supported NUDIPU’s organizational development to strengthen the umbrella organizations and their members, Disabled People Organizations.

The copyright agreement has been established between the three founders to ensure that the integrity and inclusive focus of the iSAVE model is preserved. The iSAVE model may be replicated by other development actors under a copyright agreemet. This will enable persons with disabilities and their ocmmunities to benefit from the model, which has harvested great results in Uganda.
